Caring for your candles

Making sure your scented candles stay looking and smelling great requires a little bit of care and attention. To help you make the most of your candles we've pulled together our 5 top candle care tips for you!

KEEP WICKS TRIMMED TO 5MM AT ALL TIMES

If we can give you one piece of advice, this is it! Start by trimming your wick down to 5mm every time you burn it, let the wax come down to room temperature and trim the wick before relighting. You can use an old pair of scissors or a lovely wick trimmer from our sister company, Lower Lodge Candles. Keeping it this length will avoid 'clubbing' which is a build-up of carbon that can be visible at the end of a wick during burning. The carbon creates a mushroom effect which (if left untrimmed) can affect the performance of the candle.

DO NOT BURN A CANDLE FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS AT A TIME

Burning a candle longer than 4 hours causes the wick to 'club' and may potentially lead to unnecessary sooting.

NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE UNATTENDED

It goes without saying!

KEEP AWAY FROM DRAUGHTS

Candles burn best in still air as draughts can disturb the wick causing it to soot or burn unevenly. Exposing your candle to a draught can cause the flame to migrate to one side and even cause the candle glass to crack! Make sure you place your candle away from open windows and doors to avoid this happening.

SET THE CANDLE MEMORY

When lighting your candle for the first time, you want it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface as this will prevent tunnelling and create an even burn for the duration of the candle's 'life'. This may take up to 2-4 hours, but we promise it will make your candle burn evenly and last longer.

And there you have it, our 5 top tips for burning the perfect candle!
